AfterPay Results - Is the Convertible Note any good?
AfterPay announced a shock A$1.25bn convertible note with their first half FY2021 results on 24 February 2021. While investors digest the financial results they also scurry to decide whether the convertible note will be a worthwhile investment - especially into a company that is losing more and more money each year. Is lending money to a company that constantly loses money a good idea? Does the convertible note provide investors with strong upside? We look at the 1H FY21 results, the key metrics, regulatory hurdles and compare Afterpay to Microsoft in their heyday of 11% average growth for a decade. What's the difference between the two? Microsoft grew profits as their market share and users grew, Afterpay is, but the metrics are a little different, so we explore the metrics that are specific to APT. Maintaining discipline in this volatile market Only Good Entry Positions
As markets forge to higher ground, the valuations stretch, Gary Glover of Novus Capital looks to lighten the portfolio exposure and only take the ideal entries. Words from Glover: The condensed model portfolio was down slightly last week, up 21.58% vs the ASX 200 which is now up 2.83% since June 2019. A few changes and additions last fortnight, as we traded in GEM, AGL and LLC and stopped out on AGL. We have edged up a few of our stops just in case we see a pullback from here which is very possible. I believe we are nearing a peak of sorts and have tightened up a lot of our stops. We will try to maintain our discipline of only accepting good entry positions in this volatile market. We are now 40% invested. • With the market looking very extended and nearing a seasonal timing for a peak, we should be very cautious here.
